Fire Life Safety Coordinator Responsibilities

Your company’s Tenant Coordinator will serve as the Fire Life Safety Coordinator, unless otherwise specified.

The Fire Life Safety Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Assigning employees as Fire Wardens and Alternate Fire Wardens and maintaining and providing the list of volunteers to Building Management.
  • Supervising all emergency team members (Fire Wardens, Alternate Fire Wardens, and Disabled Employee Aides) during an evacuation to ensure that all positions are filled and that the duties of each are carried out properly.
  • Coordinating meetings with wardens and aides to ensure that they understand their responsibilities.
  • The Fire Life Safety Coordinator, in conjunction with Fire Wardens should ensure the training of all new employees on emergency and building evacuation procedures.

Fire Warden Responsibilities

Each company should have one Fire Warden and one Alternate Fire Warden for every twenty-five (25) employees.

Fire Wardens are responsible for:

  • Sweeping their group area (and restrooms, if assigned) after employees have evacuated.
  • Reporting their areas "all clear" and the location of any disabled employees in stairwells to Colliers or fire department personnel.
  • Training all new employees in their group on emergency and building evacuation procedures including the exact location of their primary and secondary evacuation routes and exterior group rendezvous location.

Alternate Fire Warden Responsibilities

Alternate Fire Wardens are responsible for:

  • Performing the duties of the Fire Warden in their absence.

Disabled Employee Aide Responsibilities

Disabled Employee Aides are responsible for:

  • Assist ambulatory disabled employees in evacuating.
  • OR

  • Remain in the stairwell with non-ambulatory or semi-ambulatory disabled employees, inform Fire Warden of stairwell location and wait for fire department to assist with safe evacuation.
